Construction employment up in 43 states

March 18, 2015

Construction firms added jobs in 43 states and the District of Columbia between January 2014 and January 2015, according to an analysis of US Department of Labor data released today by the Associated General Contractors of America.

North Dakota posted the largest year-over-year percentage increase in construction employment at 13.4%. However, Texas led in terms of total number of jobs added with 49,600 jobs added year over year.

“Most of the country experienced a welcome rebound in construction employment last year,” said Ken Simonson, the AGCA’s chief economist. “Yet it is unclear how public sector demand and new regulatory requirements will overshadow relatively robust private-sector demand.”

Seven states shed construction jobs during the past 12 months. Mississippi lost the highest percentage and total number of jobs at 12.7% and a 6,600 jobs.
