June 12, 2015

Community care facilities for the elderly are expected to post the largest growth by percentage in the next five years at 13%, according to research from CareerBuilder and Economic Modeling Specialists International. However, Computer systems design and related services will add more jobs at 19,550.

Canada is projected to create nearly 500,000 jobs between 2015 and 2020 — a 3% increase — though a significant number of industries and occupations will likely experience a greater percentage gain during this period.

“The Canadian job market weathered the global economic downturn virtually unscathed,” said Mark Bania, managing director of CareerBuilder Canada. “While hiring appears to have slowed slightly, many industries and occupations remain healthy and strong in terms of growth, with some industries projected to grow as much as 13% over the next five years.”

Industries projected to experience at least 10% growth in employment between 2015 and 2020, excluding the self-employed, include:

  • Community care facilities for the elderly: +13,491 jobs to 114,839; 13%
  • Home healthcare services: +7,205 jobs to 69,114; 12%
  • Child day care services: +13,491 jobs to 135,140; 11%
  • Computer systems design and related services: +19,550 jobs to 203,210; 11%
