Revenue in the Canadian staffing industry rose 8.6% year-over-year to C$8.0 billion (US$6.86 billion) in 2006, Statistics Canada reported earlier this month. That compares to an increase of 17.3% in 2005.
Revenue gains in 2006 came mostly from direct hire and contract staffing services, which accounted for 28% of revenue, according to Statistics Canada. Temporary staffing represented 70% of revenue, down from 77% in 2005.
Some 57% of the Canadian staffing industry's revenue came from Ontario in 2006.
