Canadian staffing revenue up 1% in 2008

Operating revenue in for the employment services industry in Canada rose by 1.0% in 2008 to C$9.2 billion, according to information released today by Statistics Canada.

The year-over-year increase is smaller than the 10.9% growth in 2007, 11.0% growth in 2006 and 18.1% growth in 2005.

Ontario generated the lion's share of the revenue with 56.7%.

Temporary staffing services generated 60% of the employment services industry's operating revenue in 2008; permanent placement and contract staffing represented 37%, and other services represented 3%.
