Canada records little change in employment

Canada added 9,500 jobs in October, edging up employment by 0.1% to more than 17.2 million, Statistics Canada reported today. Full-time jobs increased by 47,500, while the number of part-time jobs fell by 38,100.

The nationwide unemployment rate rose to 6.2% in October, up from 6.1% in September.

In Ontario, employment was little changed in October. The province lost 2,900 jobs, and total employment was more than 6.7 million. Ontario's unemployment rate rose to 6.5% in October from 6.4% in September.

Alberta continued to record the lowest jobless rate among provinces in October at 3.7%.
