Canada lost 70,600 jobs in November, bringing total employment to 17.1 million, Statistics Canada reported today. Canada's unemployment rate edged up to 6.3% in November from 6.2% in October.
Of November's losses, 32,400 were in full-time jobs and 38,000 in part-time positions. The manufacturing sector represented 54.2% of the jobs lost.
Much of the job losses were in Ontario, which shed 66,000 jobs. Its unemployment rate rose to 7.1% in November from 6.5% in October.
Alberta continued to record the lowest jobless rate among provinces in November at 3.4%.
