Canada Adds 34,300 Jobs

Canada added approximately 34,300 jobs in August for a total of approximately 17.5 million, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by Statistics Canada. An increase in part-time jobs of 46,700 more than offset a decrease in full-time jobs of 12,500.

The Canadian unemployment rate was unchanged in August from July at 7.3 percent.

Ontario lost 24,900 jobs in August. The province lost 15,000 full-time jobs and 9,900 part-time jobs. Ontario’s unemployment rate rose to 8.0 percent in August from 7.9 percent in July.

Saskatchewan and Alberta both posted the lowest jobless rates among all provinces in August at 4.4 percent each.
