Beige Book: Temp hiring up

June 10, 2010

Labor market conditions improved slightly and many Federal Reserve districts reported increased temporary hiring, according to the Federal Reserve Beige Book report released Wednesday. The Boston and Dallas districts reported increases in temp-to-perm transitions.

Manufacturing was the most-often cited source of employment gains. Other areas of employment increases included the biopharmaceutical industry in the Boston district, retail trade in the Chicago district and transportation in the Dallas district.

Overall, economic activity improved across all 12 districts since the last report released in April; although the pace of growth was described as "modest."
