Beige Book: Economic decline stabilizes

July 30, 2009

The pace of U.S. economic decline stabilized over the past month, according to the Federal Reserve Beige Book released Wednesday. Labor markets, however, were extremely soft with little wage pressure.

Staffing firms in the Atlanta Federal Reserve District noted that employers were taking advantage of the higher supply of skilled labor to improve their workforces, according to the report. Overall, staffing firms reported a higher demand for temporary or part-time workers than for permanent hires.
