Artech Information Systems LLC acquired Edge Professional Services LLC, a Washington D.C.-based information technology services firm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Edge's clients include both industry and the federal government. The Rockville, Md.-based firm is a Department of Defense top-secret cleared facility and is a U.S. General Services Administration-approved supplier.

Blaine Smith, Edge's executive vice president, will continue to lead the organization following the acquisition. Rick Harrison, its president and managing partner, will continue to provide general corporate oversight and managerial services.

Artech, based in Cedar Knolls, N.J., provides workforce solutions, IT consulting and outsourced project services. It employs more than 5,200 professionals and has more than 20 locations in the U.S., India, China and Mexico. Artech ranked No. 4 on Staffing Industry Analysts' 2010 list of fastest-growing U.S. staffing firms.

The deal was announced by Fairmount Partners, a Philadelphia-based investment bank.
