Allied Healthcare revenue rises 13%

Allied Healthcare International Inc. (NASD: AHCI), a New York-based homecare and healthcare staffing firm that does all of its business in the United Kingdom, reported revenue rose 12.8% on a year-over-year basis to $69.4 million.

The gain took place in the company's homecare business, according to Allied Healthcare. Homecare revenue rose 17.3% on a constant currency basis to $56.6 million. First-quarter revenue in its nursing home business fell 32.2% to $5.1 million on a constant currency basis and its hospital business fell 7.8% to $5.2 million.

First-quarter gross margin narrowed to 30.1% from 30.6% in the year-ago quarter.

Net income rose 15.7% in the first quarter to $2.9 million from $2.5 million in the same period in the previous year.
