Jobless claims rise 5.3%

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment benefits rose 5.3% to 637,000 in the week ended May 9 from the previous week's revised number of 605,000. The four-week moving average of claims rose 1.0% to 630,500 from the previous week's revised average of 624,500.
