AI, virtual reality to create jobs, employers say

More than half of employers, 58%, believe artificial intelligence and virtual reality will be job creators, according to data in “The Future Is Now: AI, the Metaverse and the World of Work” report released by ManpowerGroup Inc.’s Experis division.

The report’s survey also found that companies plan to adopt emerging technologies in their recruiting process. This includes:

  • Artificial intelligence: 35% have adopted, 36% plan to
  • Conversational AI: 35% have adopted, 36% plan to
  • Machine learning: 38% have adopted, 34% plan to
  • Virtual reality: 30% adopted, 35% plan to

The integration of AI, machine learning, virtual reality and other emerging technologies is transforming industries and driving the need for an adaptable workforce, said Ger Doyle, senior VP at Experis.

“We are seeing companies embrace these new technologies with many seeking to hire or upskill existing talent to take advantage of potential productivity gains,” Doyle said. “Smart employers know that embracing digitization and nurturing human talent will enhance their readiness to succeed in this era of rapid technological advancement.”

Other findings in the report include:

  • 65% of all respondents agreed with the statement, “The metaverse would improve ways that I can interact with my colleagues in other locations.”
  • 76% of job seekers are comfortable with the use of AI in the hiring process, but 46% want a real person to review their application.
  • 40% of workers would feel comfortable with a virtual job interview, but 32% would still prefer an in-person interview.

The survey took place on LinkedIn (1,000 responses) and online (100 responses) and included employers and candidates. It took place from March through April.
