IT Staffing Report

Preliminary estimates for GDP growth in the third quarter suggest that conditions have improved relative to the tepid pace of the first half of 2016. On the other hand, Staffing Industry Analysts’ monthly Pulse Survey for September found IT staffing firms reporting bearish signals including an increase in sales difficulty, decrease in recruiting difficulty and net decline in the proportion experiencing new order growth. These countervailing indicators are a microcosm of the conflicting demand trends expressed by IT staffing firms in their 3Q16 financial reports.

Wipro to buy Topcoder owner Appirio

IT services and outsourcing provider Wipro Limited (NYSE: WIT) will acquire Indianapolis-based IT cloud consulting firm Appirio for $500 million. Appirio also owns Topcoder, a crowdsourcing marketplace with more than one million IT professionals, from coders to data scientists, on its platform.

Laid off Disney employees lose ruling, prepare new fight (Computerworld)

The IT employees laid off by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, who alleged a "conspiracy to displace U.S. workers" in a lawsuit, lost a key ruling in October and face dismissal of the complaint, Computerworld reported. Workers sued after Disney hired IT services firms Cognizant and HCL.
