IT tops among professional staffing segments represented on 2016 Largest US Staffing Firms List

IT staffing firms led all other segments of the professional staffing sector in terms of representation on Staffing Industry Analysts’ recently released 2016 list of largest US staffing firms. According to our estimates, of the 134 firms that qualified for inclusion by generating at least $100 million in US staffing revenue in 2015, 40 indicated IT as their primary skill segment supplied. This lags only the industrial segment, which was the top market for 43 firms on the list, and is ahead of the healthcare segment, with 20 firms.

Also hot off the presses is our Largest IT Staffing Firms in the United States: 2016 Update, which explores the IT staffing landscape in greater detail. This year’s list features 42 firms that generated at least $100 million in IT temporary staffing revenue in the US in 2015, combining to represent $17.1 billion, or 63% of the total US IT temporary staffing market, according to our estimates.

While the market share controlled by the five largest suppliers has held fairly steady at 30% since 2010, the share held by the top 15 has declined from 50% to 47% over the same interim. In this fragmented industry, many firms in the $100 million to $250 million range have benefitted from specialization, gaining share by building a niche practice where they can become known as the “go to” supplier for their clients.

Notwithstanding the fragmented nature of the overall market, Allegis Group’s TEKsystems maintains a fairly dominant position at the top, its $3.24 billion estimated 2015 IT staffing revenue more than doubling that of On Assignment in the second slot. The fast-growing Insight Global held in the third spot, widening its gap ahead of Randstad Technologies in fourth. Newly cracking the top five on this year’s list was Kforce, which moved ahead of ManpowerGroup’s Experis brand.

Both of these reports, available to Staffing Industry Analysts’ corporate members, provide a wealth of information on the staffing industry competitive landscape.
