AMN Healthcare appoints new president and CEO

AMN Healthcare Services Inc. (NYSE: AMN) on Oct. 31 named a new top executive. Cary Grace will be taking over the president and CEO role from Susan Salka, who announced her retirement earlier this year.

“The AMN board of directors was deeply committed to selecting a proven executive who will continue AMN’s exceptional growth and impact while also honoring our incredible culture,” Chairman Doug Wheat said. “Cary stands out as a leader who will build upon our operational and organizational strengths to ensure AMN’s outstanding performance now and for years to come.”

Grace previously served as CEO of global retirement, investment and human capital at Aon, a business with $2 billion in annual revenue. Prior to joining Aon in 2011, Grace spent more than 14 years at Bank of America.

Grace also serves on the State Farm board and the Rush University Medical Center board of trustees. She has also served on the board of The Chicago Network and the CEO Advisory Council of the Diversity Project North America.

She will relocate to Dallas with her husband when her new role begins.

Salka will remain as AMN’s CEO and a board member until Grace assumes the role on Nov. 28.

“As I pass the torch of this purpose-driven company, this mission, that I treasure and hold dear, I have all confidence that Cary will join AMN’s incredible leaders and team members in their steadfast commitment to make a positive impact for clients, clinicians, colleagues and communities,” Salka said.

Salka spent 32 years at AMN, including more than 17 as CEO. She announced in March that she had decided to retire. Salka has appeared on SIA’s Global Power 150 — Women in Staffing and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Influencers lists and is a member of the Staffing 100 North America Hall of Fame.
