Nursing again ranks as most honest and ethical profession

Nurses have the highest ethics ratings among a range of professions measured by Gallup. It found 79% of US adults say nurses have “very high” or “high” honesty and ethical standards. Nurses have topped the list for 21 years, though their score this year was 10 percentage points below the highest ever rating for nurses, which was recorded in 2020. Doctors ranked next with 62% believing they are highly honest and ethical. At the bottom of the list were telemarketers, members of Congress and car salespeople.

The American Nurses Association said the ranking reflects nurses’ skill and deep connection to their patients and communities.

“This recognition belongs to America’s 4.4 million incredible nurses,” ANA President Jennifer Mensik Kennedy said. “For more than two decades now, the nation has recognized the vital role you play in keeping our friends, families and communities safe and healthy, regardless of the setting you work in or the challenges you might face.
