Vetoed: No minimum wage rule for Minneapolis independent contractor drivers (The Associated Press)

August 23, 2023

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Aug. 22 vetoed a minimum wage measure for the city’s independent contractor ridesharing drivers including Uber and Lyft, The Associated Press reported. Frey said more time was needed to get the rules “right.” Instead, the mayor received a commitment from Uber that drivers picking up passengers in Minneapolis or driving within the city will make the minimum wage of $15 per hour, according to his statement reported by the AP. Lyft wasn’t a part of this deal, according to the AP.
