Uber adds Arianna Huffington to board

April 27, 2016

Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, will join the board of human cloud firm Uber, according to a blog post today by CEO Travis Kalanick.

Kalanick praised Huffington’s skills as an entrepreneur and a storyteller.

“Arianna embodies the type of optimistic leadership we need as Uber continues to grow,” Kalanick wrote. “Her guidance has been invaluable to me personally over the years, and I know that in this new role she’ll help take Uber to the next level.”

In an interview with CNNMoney, Huffington said she would focus on telling the story of Uber’s role in transforming cities, as well as look at new opportunities to deliver varied services to users.

“I would love to tell all the stories around what is happening in cities beyond transportation,” CNNMoney quoted Huffington as saying. “Do some cities want to give free rides to cancer patients? Do they want to work with the Red Cross? There are so many possibilities.”

Uber last week agreed to settle two class-action lawsuits for up to $100 million in a deal that keeps its drivers classified as independent contractors, not employees.
