The number of US job openings were little changed in November, falling by just 0.5% as demand for workers remains high, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Job openings were revised upwards from 10.3 million to 10.5 million in October and held steady in November — a testament to the resilience of demand of labor on Main Street, even as job openings tumbled on Wall Street,” Julia Pollak, chief economist at ZipRecruiter, wrote in a tweet.

In November, the number of hires fell 0.9% month over month.

The number and rate of quits, which are generally voluntary separations initiated by the employee, were little changed at 4.2 million, up 3.1% month over month.

Layoffs and discharges changed little, falling 6.6% in November to 1.4 million.
