US job openings fall 6.7% in August to eight-month low

October 12, 2016

The number of US job openings in August fell 6.7% from July to 5.4 million, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The number of hires also edged down from July.

The job openings rate — a measure of job openings compared with total employment — fell 30 basis points to 3.6% in August from July.

Reuters reported job openings fell to an eight-month low in August and hiring was little changed, suggesting some easing in labor market conditions in part as the economic recovery ages.
