Temp staffing revenue rises median 21% in April, but growth eases

May 31, 2022

Temporary staffing revenue continued to witness growth in April but at a slightly lower rate, according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ latest Pulse Survey report, released last week.

Among firms taking part in the Pulse Survey, the median revenue increase was 21% year over year. In comparison, the median increase was 25% in the previous Pulse Survey covering February.

The travel nurse segment continued to lead the way and reported growth across sectors, with a median increase of 55% year over year in April. However, it is the first time since early 2021 that the segment recorded growth of less than 100%.

In addition, revenue was up a median 51% in per diem nursing and 21% in allied healthcare.

The latest Pulse Survey included data from 161 staffing firms.

Other than healthcare, the fastest growth was in IT, up by a median 19% year over year, while office/clerical rose a median 16%.

A report that includes selected highlights from the Pulse Survey is available to corporate members of SIA; the full Pulse report itself is available only to companies that took part in the survey. The full 35-page report contains insights on trends in revenue, bill rates, orders, gross margins, recruiting/sales difficulty, and a six-month outlook for each staffing skill segment.
