And last week, Walmart announced plans to hire 40,000 workers to fill seasonal roles in its stores and in telephone customer care. Its plans also include hiring for full-time, permanent truck driver jobs. Three-quarters of its salaried managers began as hourly associates, the company said; its average US wage is more than $17 per hour, with many earning more based on role and market. The company also offers medical coverage starting at $31.40 per paycheck.

Macy’s plans to hire 40,000, including both full-time and part-time seasonal positions at its Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury stores, supply chain locations and call centers. It notes applying for jobs can take as little as five minutes, and the majority of offers are made within 48 hours. Permanent workers have average base pay of above $17 per hour; however, total pay averages $20 per hour.
