Supplemental Health Care execs step down, launch new firm

April 20, 2016

Several executives from Supplemental Health Care left the Park City, Utah-based healthcare staffing firm and launched RecruitIQ Staffing, a commercial staffing agency focusing on healthcare and non-healthcare organizations.

Executives involved include President and CEO Janet Elkin, COO Laura Magner, Chief Development Officer Cheryl Wilhelm, and CMO Mike Dunagan.

“A dynamic company is almost always a reflection of a strong, functional management team,” said Magner. “Not only do we collectively have an incredible amount of hands-on, operational experience helping clients solve their workforce challenges, but we share a common vision for what we want our company to be and how we will achieve those goals.”

Private equity firm Vistria Group in December acquired Supplemental Health Care, which ranks No. 7 on Staffing Industry Analysts’ list of largest US healthcare staffing firms.

Elkin resigned from Supplemental five weeks ago. She is profiled in Staffing Industry Analysts’ Staffing 100 list of most influential people in the staffing industry.

“It was a hard decision,” Elkin said. “I had been there for 13 years, CEO for six, and loved the company. But it was just time to head in a new direction and I had this opportunity to start a new company.”

The new venture is funded by the executives, who are part owners, as well as more than 10 investors. “Some are former board members of Supplemental who really wanted to do it again,” Elkin said. “I am very fortunate that they had a lot of confidence in myself and my team.”

Initially, RecruitIQ Staffing is operating in two markets: Dallas, where Elkin is based, and Dayton, Ohio, where Magner is based. It will open in Buffalo, NY, where Wilhelm is based, within the next three months.

RecruitIQ Staffing will initially focus on administrative and professional level temporary and temp-to-perm placements, with a special emphasis on non-clinical placements within the healthcare industry. The company also will provide human resource consulting services, focusing primarily on the healthcare segment.

“Our focus will initially be on non-clinical staffing — I am honoring my non-compete agreement — but staying in healthcare because healthcare is what I know and love,” Elkin said.

RecruitIQ Staffing is hiring quickly and plans to expand aggressively.

“I see us in the next two to three years probably being the size of Supplemental or larger at that point,” Elkin said.

Growth plans include an acquisition strategy. RecruitIQ looks for progressive companies that match its culture, according to Elkin.

“We are certainly interested in acquisitions and will be looking for companies who are a right fit, both culturally and strategically,” she said. “We intend to aggressively expand both our geographic footprint and service scope over time, and acquisitions can really help jumpstart that process.”
