January 29, 2020

Some 17.5 million US adults may miss work the day after Super Bowl LIV, making it the largest-ever anticipated day of Super Bowl-related absenteeism, according to a report by The Workforce Institute and Kronos Inc.

The report is based on a survey of 1,148 employed US adults.

In addition, the report found that 29% of employees confirm they have missed work or gone in late on the Monday after a Super Bowl in the past.

And 56% say their employers do not plan for increased absences that can happen after a Super Bowl. Still, 9% witnessed or heard about a coworker getting in trouble or being fired for missing work the Monday after a Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LIV takes place this Sunday in Miami and will feature the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs.
