October 15, 2021

Staffing hours worked for the week ended Oct. 9 held steady from the previous week but remained up 19% year over year, with particular strength in professional occupations, according to the latest SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, released today.

On a week-over-week sequential basis, commercial temporary staffing hours worked were down 0.7% while professional temporary staffing hours were up 0.3%. Still, hours worked remained at year-to-date highs for both professional and commercial staffing, consistent with the broad seasonal increase observed in the fourth quarter of most calendar years.

Week ending Oct. 9, 2021 Indexed value Year over year Week over week
US staffing 107 +19% -0.4%
Commercial staffing 93 +11% -0.7%
Professional staffing 136 +31% +0.3%

The SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator measures hours worked. It comprises two sets of analyses: a year-over-year comparison showing how the most recent week compared to the same week 12 months previously and an indexed value that has been benchmarked against data from the week ended Jan. 19, 2019.

In the week ended Oct. 9, the index value was 107, following readings of 107 and 104 as revised in the prior two weeks.
