Some hospitals avoid vaccine mandates in efforts to keep or attract staff (Kaiser Health News)

August 31, 2021

Some hospitals are avoiding Covid-19 vaccine mandates in order to avoid driving away needed staff, and some healthcare organizations tout lack of vaccine requirements as a way to attract staff, Kaiser health News reported. “Obviously, it’s going to be a real challenge for these small, rural hospitals to mandate a vaccine when they’re already facing such significant workforce shortages,” said Alan Morgan, head of the National Rural Health Association. The report noted California has mandated vaccines for healthcare workers by the end of September and some travel nurses are already avoiding the state.
