Senator says gig economy requires new social contract — Staffing quote of the week

“There is an enormous amount of innovation taking place, enormous amounts of job satisfaction and flexibility, and new opportunities to generate income for employees, but there are policy questions which require a new social contract to be put in place,” Talk Radio News Service quoted tech company founder and US Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) as saying about the gig economy. “There were social insurance programs in the 20th century [that] caught displaced workers during their fall. There is nothing like that in [the] 21st century.”
