Seeking common ground on contract worker protections (Bloomberg BNA)

July 29, 2016

Peg Seminario, safety and health director at the AFL-CIO, and Baruch Fellner, an active retired partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, discussed with Bloomberg BNA how — or if — the evolving world of contract work should be regulated. “There are a lot of challenges that we face in these changing structures and relationships in protecting workers on the job,” Seminario said. “We have a lot of information showing that people who are working in shorter term jobs and people who, when they show up at work, haven’t been working there very long, are at higher risk. That’s just a fact. We have data showing that, in some of the more hazardous industries, temporary workers face twice the risk.”
