Seasonal holiday workers seeking flexibility, as many hours as possible: Bluecrew

October 18, 2019

Workers looking for hourly, seasonal holiday jobs prioritize flexible schedules and being able to put as many hours in as possible, according to a survey by online staffing platform Bluecrew and research firm Toluna. Those criteria trumped high pay, according to the survey.

The survey found 55% of respondents would like to work 26 hours or more per week, although 63% expect to be given 25 hours or less per week.

Other findings:

  • A majority, 63%, began looking for a seasonal job before October.
  • Some 32% expect an hourly pay rate of $13.26.
  • Primary sources for finding a seasonal holiday job were job boards, cited by 30% of respondents; social media, cited by 23%; and mobile apps, cited by 16%.
  • A quarter of respondents were planning to work in retail stores, 16% in restaurants, 15% in customer support and 14% in warehouse/logistics.
  • More than half of those surveyed preferred to be a W-2 employee instead of an independent contractor.

The survey included 839 workers ages 18 and older and was taken between Aug. 27 and Sept. 3.
