Saratoga County in New York posts largest growth in weekly wages, average for the nation up 4.3%

The largest increase in average weekly wages in the second quarter was in New York’s Saratoga County, according to US Bureau of Labor Statistics data released today. It posted the biggest growth among the 355 largest counties in the second quarter with a year-over-year increase of 16.3%.

Within Saratoga, an average weekly wage gain of $1,748 — an increase of 109.3% — in manufacturing made the largest contribution to the county’s increase in average weekly wages.

On the flip side, the large county with the biggest decrease was Benton, Arkansas, where the average weekly wage fell 16.1% in the second quarter. Within Benton, professional and business services had the largest impact, with an average weekly wage decrease of $952, down 35.9% over the year.

Looking at the US as a whole, 340 of the 355 largest counties posted increases in average weekly wages in the second quarter. Average weekly wages for the nation increased 4.3% year over year to $1,294.
