Report finds happiest workers in Belgium, US workforce ‘restless’

Belgium ranks as the top country for worker happiness, according to the Global Workforce Happiness Index released today by Universum, a global employer brand research firm. 

The index measure of a worker’s happiness in their job and career using scoring system combines worker satisfaction, a worker’s willingness to recommend their current employer, and their likelihood of switching jobs in the near future. It places countries into four categories: Stranded, seeker, restless and fulfilled.

The US landed in the “restless” category. According to the report, restless employees require immediate attention. These workers are satisfied at work and even likely to recommend a company as a place of employment, but are also open to changing jobs.

Top scores include:

  1. Belgium: 33.41
  2. Norway: 32.32
  3. Costa Rica: 31.98
  4. Denmark: 31.53
  5. South Africa: 31.51
  6. Austria: 30.30
  7. Switzerland: 30.35
  8. Greece: 30.31
  9. Czech Rep: 30.30
  10. Russia: 29.93

Universum surveyed More than 250,000 working professionals in 55 markets.
