Report claims workers at outsourcing giant get lengthy bench assignments, essentially being paid for not working (The Verge)

December 10, 2021

When IT services giant Infosys Ltd. was ramping up hiring in the US market some workers say it was, effectively, paying them not to work; instead they were put on the bench for lengthy periods of time, according to website The Verge. The website noted that Infosys had pledged to hire 13,000 US employees and upped its pledge in 2020 to 25,000 after that, but some workers say they had nothing to do. The hiring pledge was announced during the Trump administration, which had cracked down on hiring of foreign workers with H-1B visas. However, Infosys told the Verge that the visa restrictions were tangential to the hiring. At least one of the employees interviewed by The Verge said he preferred the bench despite requests to relocate for client projects.
