Recruit acquires jobs website Simply Hired

July 01, 2016

Recruit Holdings Co. Ltd., one of the world’s largest staffing firms, acquired the assets of job search engine Simply Hired.

Simplyhired.com will continue to operate as a job search site and be a publishing partner of job search site Indeed, which Recruit acquired in 2012.

“Recruit is committed to increasing its leadership position in the HR industry through both organic growth and M&A activities,” Recruit stated in a press release. “In addition to strengthening its operations in Japan, Recruit sees many opportunities to grow in international markets and become a global HR leader.”

No further details of the transaction were disclosed.

Before its acquisition, Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Simplyhired.com reported 30 million monthly users; it operates in 24 countries and 12 languages.

Aside from Indeed, Recruit owns other job boards operating in Asia such as Rikunabi, Work in Japan, Hatalike, Minna-no-Kyujinban, Travaille, and From A Navi. These operations combine to make Recruit the world’s largest job board based on annual revenue, according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ ranking of largest job boards globally. Simply Hired previously ranked No. 29th on the list.

TechCrunch in May reported Simply Hired informed its business partners that it was suspending its partnership agreements, effective June 26.

The Simply Hired acquisition underscores ongoing consolidation in the recruitment market, TechCrunch reports. In June, Monster Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: MWW) acquired mobile job-finding app Jobr, a two-year-old startup based in San Francisco, and Microsoft Corp. (NASD: MSFT) agreed to acquire LinkedIn Corp. (NYSE: LNKD) in a transaction valued at $26.2 billion.
