Pay transparency, staffing platforms among trends for 2023

January 25, 2023

Increased interest in pay transparency and staffing platforms becoming more mainstream are among the trends impacting the staffing industry in 2023, according to the “Staffing Trends 2023” report by John Nurthen, executive director of global research at Staffing Industry Analysts.

Pay transparency is seen as a remedy to the gender pay gap, which remains stubbornly in place after more than 50 years of equal pay legislation.

“New laws have been introduced during 2022 in many jurisdictions and the topic is likely to demand employers’ attention not just in 2023, but into the foreseeable future,” according to the report. “Multiple countries, including Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Iceland, Lithuania, the UK and the US, already have transparency legislation or policies in place.”

The legislative measures range from requiring employers to disclose salary ranges in job advertisements to audits on gender and pay.

Staffing platforms are also becoming more mainstream.

“The most notable adoption of the platform model has been in the US healthcare staffing market,” according to the report. “This market has been super-charged by the demands placed on it by the pandemic, however, the strongest growth has been achieved by those staffing firms offering platform-delivery models.”

Other trends in the report center on the economy, unemployment, shortening of payroll cycles, services provided by staffing firms in addition to staffing and a countertrend to automation valuing human mediation focused on more bespoke products and services.
