Despite the growing popularity of artificial intelligence in the workplace, only 5% of human resource leaders have implemented generative AI, according to a report by Gartner. Another 9% said they are currently conducting generative AI pilots.

More than 60% of the survey respondents are participating in enterprisewide discussions around their organization’s use of generative AI, according to the report. In addition, 58% of HR leaders said they are collaborating with IT leaders and 45% are collaborating with their organization’s legal and compliance function to explore the potential use cases.

“More than half of HR leaders surveyed by Gartner said they are currently exploring how they can use generative AI with nothing in place yet,” said Dion Love, VP of advisory at Gartner’s HR practice. “Conversely, 14% of HR leaders are not planning to use generative AI in the near term.”

The report also found that HR operations, including administrative tasks, policies and document generation and recruiting, including job descriptions, are currently the most prioritized use cases within organizations.

Among the respondents, 84% believe generative AI will make existing HR activities more productive, while two-thirds think generative AI will eliminate redundant activities within the function.
