Online job ads rise in October, offset prior month’s loss

November 08, 2016

US online job ads rose by 116,100 in October to almost 4.84 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads. The October gain offset the loss in September of 93,800 online job ads.

“The second half of 2016 appears to have stabilized and is showing small gains in the number of online job ads following the steep losses in the first half of the year,” said Gad Levanon, chief economist, North America, at The Conference Board.

All of the 10 largest online job categories posted increases in October. Transportation and material moving ads posted the largest increase, up 28,000 to a total of 333,500, followed by sales and related ads, which gained 20,800 ads for a total of 486,100.

Education, training, and library posted the smallest gain, up by 2,800 to a total of 159,900.
