Online job ads flat, ‘downward trend’ continues

August 31, 2016

US online job ads edged up by only 1,900 in August to almost 4.82 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads.

“A flat August shows no sign of renewed strength in online advertised vacancies,” said Gad Levanon, chief economist, North America, at The Conference Board. “The large losses in the first half of 2016 still dominate the downward trend for advertised vacancies in 2016.”

Five of the 10 largest online job categories posted increases in August. Business and financial operations ads posted the largest increase, up by 13,300 to a total of 291,900, followed by management ads, which rose by 10,200 to 422,000.

Food preparation and serving-related ads posted the largest loss, down by 15,500 to a total of 237,500, followed by sales and related ads, which fell by 10,100 to 487,400.
