New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested Wednesday that New York may become the next state to enact legislation similar to California’s AB 5 law, FeightWaves reported. In his State of the State address, Cuomo mentioned the gig economy. “A driver is not an independent contractor simply because she drives her own car on the job,” Cuomo said. “A newspaper carrier is not an independent contractor because they ride their own bicycle. A domestic worker is not an independent contractor because she brings her own broom and mop to the job.” Cuomo mentioned the gig economy in his state of the state address.
