More than half of US workers, 58%, are considering post-retirement employment, according to a report by financial advisory firm Empower. Of those open to working after retirement, 41% are motivated by personal fulfillment, 37% by a sense of purpose and 40% by potential financial needs.

“Having clearly defined personal goals — including when you want to retire — can help determine how much you should have saved and the steps you can take to help optimize your investments,” Nik Franklin, CFP, a senior financial advisor at Empower, said in a press statement. “Defining the ideal retirement is individual and comes down to priorities, values and goals — both financial and personal.”

The report also found that workers remain concerned by economic factors that could impact their financial futures. These include inflation, 52%; running out of money, 51%; and unexpected expenses, 49%.

The survey was conducted by Fractl on behalf of Empower in July and included responses from 1,009 workers.
