“High-skilled immigration has not only been important to the success of Microsoft and other individual tech companies, but in the global leadership position of the entire American tech sector,” Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith wrote in support of new legislation on H-1B visas, which are used to bring in highly skilled foreign workers on a temporary basis. The bill that Smith was discussing was introduced last week by Republican lawmakers and would expand the number of H-1B visas available.
