Maryland had the lowest jobless rate in the United States in October at 1.7%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Thursday. North Dakota posted the second-lowest at 1.9%.
Conversely, Nevada posted the highest unemployment rate among all states at 5.4%.
In total, 26 states had unemployment rates lower than the US figure of 3.9%. Four states and the District of Columbia had higher rates, and 20 states had rates that were not appreciably different from the national figure.
Maryland posted the largest year-over-year jobless rate decrease among all states in October, down 1.5 percentage points to 1.7%.
Meanwhile, New Jersey had the largest year-over-year unemployment rate increase in October, up 1.3 percentage points to 4.6%.
