The shifts in labor markets today reflect structural changes, not the sort of cyclical changes that are driven by economic ups and downs, Prising said. Labor and skills scarcity are accelerating a global war for talent, millennials are preparing for “career ultramarathons,” businesses are managing talent with greater sophistication, and the technological revolution is ongoing, he said. Prising also underscored the importance of linking education and business, pointing out that “employers are looking for workers to be productive very, very quickly.”
