Louisiana staffing firm files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection (KPLC)

December 05, 2017

Coastal Staffing in Sulphur, La., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a report Monday by KPLC television in Lake Charles, La. The staffing provider had already been sued by workers claiming they were not fully paid for disaster relief work done in Texas after Hurricane Harvey. An attorney representing the workers in a separate lawsuit told KPLC that he was not surprised by the filing and that Chapter 11 will allow the company to reorganize and stay in business. Workers had also protested at the company’s office in September. Separately, the SE Texas Record reported Coastal Staffing sued a worker claiming the worker withheld information and resulted in the firm not being able to provide timely paychecks.
