Los Angeles approves protections for freelancers (Daily News)

February 27, 2023

The Los Angeles City Council has approved an ordinance intended to protect freelance workers in the city, the Los Angeles Daily News reported. The adoption was announced on Feb. 24 and requires that any contract of $600 or more between employers and freelance workers must be in writing, with a date by which the freelancer must be paid. In addition, if the contract does not include a date or if there is no written contract, employers must pay freelancers within 30 days after the work is completed.
