LinkedIn revenue up 10% in fiscal Q3 as Microsoft CEO reports record engagement

April 26, 2023

LinkedIn revenue rose 10% in constant currency to more than $3.70 billion; the increase was 8% on a reported basis. Microsoft Corp., which owns LinkedIn, reported earnings on Tuesday for its fiscal third quarter ended March 31. SIA research ranks LinkedIn as the second-largest job advertising firm globally.

“We once again saw record engagement as more than 930 million members turn to the professional social network to connect, learn, sell and get hired,” CEO Satya Nadella said in an earnings call with analysts. “Member growth accelerated for the seventh consecutive quarter as we expanded to new audiences.”

Nadella said the number of student sign-ups on LinkedIn rose 73% year over year as Gen Z enters the workforce. He also highlighted that LinkedIn now has 100 million members in India, up 19%.

“In this persistently tight labor market, LinkedIn Talent Solutions continues to help hirers connect to job seekers and professionals to build the skills they need to access opportunity,” Nadella said. “Our hiring business took share for the third consecutive quarter.”

LinkedIn has also added AI-powered features such as writing suggestions for member profiles and job descriptions as well as collaborative articles. Microsoft announced a multibillion-dollar investment in San Francisco-based artificial intelligence research firm OpenAI, the startup behind ChatGPT, in January.

Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood forecast LinkedIn revenue will increase in the mid-single digits.

Total third-quarter revenue at Microsoft rose 10% in constant currency, up 7% as reported, to $52.9 billion.
