The US Department of Labor announced Tuesday that its Wage and Hour Division recovered a record $304 million in wages owed to workers in federal fiscal year 2018. The department also announced the extension of its voluntary Payroll Audit Independent Determination, or PAID, program for six months. The PAID program lets employers resolve inadvertent overtime and minimum wage violations without penalties or liquidated damages.
In addition, the department reported that it set a new record for compliance assistance events in federal fiscal year 2018, holding 3,643 educational outreach events to help employers understand their responsibilities.
“Through vigorous enforcement and compliance assistance, the Department of Labor is committed to ensuring that workers receive the wages they have earned,” US Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta said.
