Kickstarter fuels job creation, gig economy and career reinvention (Forbes)

August 31, 2016

Crowdfunding site Kickstarter, well-known for fueling startups, is also a powerful engine of job creation, Forbes reports. A recent study of 61,654 successful Kickstarter projects by Wharton professor Ethan Mollick found that about 5,135 ongoing full-time jobs were created as a result of projects funded on the site in the period Kickstarter’s launch in late April 2009 to May 2015. The site is also fueling the free-agent economy. About 160,425 temporary workers were hired to staff the projects.
