Jaguar Land Rover invests $25 million in human cloud firm Lyft

June 12, 2017

The investment division of Jaguar Land Rover, InMotion Ventures, announced a $25 million investment in human cloud, ride-sharing firm Lyft. It will supply Lyft drivers with cars and also work to help build self-driving cars.

“This investment will support Lyft’s expansion and technology plans,” according to the announcement. “It will also provide Jaguar Land Rover’s InMotion Ventures with the opportunity to develop and test its mobility services, including autonomous vehicles, and to supply Lyft drivers with a fleet of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.”

InMotion Ventures had already invested in a Detroit-based digital carpool business, which workers with Lyft to provide nonemergency medical transport.

“We are excited to collaborate with a leading platform like Lyft not only on developing premium mobility solutions but also devising innovative solutions to the transport problems Jaguar Land Rover’s customers face,” said Sebastian Peck, InMotion managing director.

Separately, Reuters is reporting that CEO of rival human cloud, ride-sharing business, Uber’s Travis Kalanick, may take a leave of absence.
