Indeed curtails free postings by staffing firms, but they can still use sponsored ads

October 22, 2018

Staffing firms will no longer be able to post free job ads on jobs website Indeed effective Jan. 7, but they will still be able to post sponsored ads, according to a blog post last Thursday by Matthew Lewis, director of search quality at Indeed.

Only staffing firms in the US and Canada will be affected.

“Every year, Indeed investigates thousands of complaints from job seekers reporting poor quality jobs,” according to the post. “Over time, our Search Quality team has identified a number of persistent problems with jobs from recruitment-based companies, including high rates of duplication, reposting, location blasting and inaccurate job descriptions.”

The company is working to balance the needs of job seekers with organizations that recruit, according to the post. The move is aimed at enhancing the experience of job seekers; the post said the policy represents approximately 5% of applies but 2% of hires on Indeed.

Companies in the US and Canada affected by the policy, according to Indeed, include “recruiting firms, placement firms, or headhunters who search for, recruit, and place job seekers into roles at other companies,” and “staffing agencies or outsourcing solutions (or business models similar to this), who employ job seekers directly to perform tasks, duties, and/or work that the company has been contracted to fulfill by its clients.”
